If you e-filed your tax return, you should get your refund within 15 days (of the date efiling was accepted) if you opted for direct deposit and 21 days if IRS send you a paper check. If you have mailed you return to the IRS, then you should receive your refund check within 6 weeks.

IRS does direct deposit on Fridays and you should see the money in your bank on the following Tuesday.

To see status of your return on IRS website, you must wait for 15 days after your efiled return was accepted.

I filed on the 19th with TaxSlayer, was accepted on the 20th, website said should receive by the 2nd. Still have not gotten and now the website is like they haven't received it yet. However, the phone system still says Feb 2nd.

I did find this statement on goftp.com when someone questioned about a delay, but not sure how accurate it is:

"Yes, if the IRS accepted your return between Januwary 15th and the 21st there is about a 2 weeks delay due to a computer glitch that sent most 1040 filers to "manual review"."

It does explain things, I'm hoping we get them this week but so long as I don't have to wait for months, I can deal with 2 weeks too. I know how hard it is to not get something, when you're depending on it, however at the same time, we shouldn't "count our chickens before they hatch", because this is the real world. Crap happens, even to the IRS. I'm sure they would rather have things go right than have millions of irate taxpayers cussing them out. So cut them a little slack or at least inquire with courtesy. :0)

Good luck to all and hope we all get our MONEY YESTERDAY!

Filed on the 18th with Turbo Tax, accepted by the IRS on the 19th. Had a refund date of 1/29, that changed to the 2nd of Feb. Today is the 2nd and now the WMR website says No information is available for my refund..WTF... I've called several times and was assured that it was no longer being processed. This is ridiculous.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but calling the IRS probably won't get you anywhere. As of today I am still getting the message: We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Unless we find mistakes or you owe other taxes, you should receive your refund by February 2, 2010. on the WMR and the telephone system.

Last week I got a letter in the mail (4464c) stating that the IRS was taking a 2nd look at my refund but didn't need any info from me, blah blah, blah. I triple checked my refund and NO issues. I called the IRS over 12 times last week to try and see what happened. A majority of the answers I got were relating to a computer glitch and many peoples return were being alerted by a computer system. All of the answers I got seemed to be BS.

A lot of people say that the dates changed on their status from Feb 2 - Feb 9th. I wonder why mine didn't ever change? Also I filed through Turbo tax and got this email on Thursday evening.

Thank you for selecting MetaBank to process your income tax refund. MetaBank has not received your IRS refund this week as expected.

We expected to receive your IRS refund on 01/29/2010. Since we only receive IRS deposits once a week, the next opportunity for us to receive your refund is one week past the expected funding date shown above. We will not have any additional information until that time.

When we receive your refund, we will make all authorized deductions and disburse the balance of your refund to you using the disbursement method selected by you.

For more information concerning your refund please log on to our Internet site at https://cisc.sbbtral.com . You may also check on the status of your refund by calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.

Now WTF is that supposed to mean?

To the guy who keeps claiming that the tax laws changed: How is it possible for the IRS to REQUIRE a W-2 in hand and not tell the public about it. I DO have my W-2 but daily while driving past Jackson Hewitt, Liberty, AND several 3rd party tax prep offices they ALL have signs posted outside stating that they ALL will prepare and file your taxes with the last pay stub. So are all of these companies committing a federal crime? I am just wondering because if that's true the IRS should be looking at them and not us.

Ive worked for the same employer for 2 years, always claimed everything the same, have no offsets, loans, debt, no kids, no home buyers credit. Even the man on the phone from the IRS said I have a VERY simple return. Im pretty sure this is just a random thing and it's more than likely phase 1 of an audit process. They seem to do this to millions of people each year from the research I have done. It would be nice to hear from someone who had this done a previous year and could tell us the resolution. Im not sure why people who already have their refund in hand or haven't even filed their taxes yet are talking on here.....not to mention they are posting the SAME EXACT copy / pasted answers on dozens of variations of questions. Can anyone with 1st hand experience help?

I'm in the same boat as you. I efiled on the 15th in has never had any info on the irs website or hotline. Then when I called they tell me it's still processing. I NEED MY MONEY BAD or at least a better answer than that.

You have every right to be upset! You're not alone in your situation. I am in the exact same position that you are in. E-filed on 1/15 accepted on 1/17, no info has ever been on WMR site. I expected my money to be DD yesterday and nothing. I called IRS, they say no problems, no errors, no offsets and my refund is still processing. No DD date has been assigned to my return. There are a lot of insensative people who keep posting "just be patient" but that's BULLS**T. The one's who say that obviously don't need the money as bad as most of us. And for the ones who keep saying change your W-4 and keep you money through the year, they are some dummies! My W-4 has 5 exemptions and I still get $5K for a refund. Your refund is based on income, the amount of deductions, etc and not solely based on how much taxes you paid to the government. I'm calling everyday this week until someone at the IRS gives me some DAMN answers!

i have the same problem. used taxact, they told me the reason it said that is because my $ is being held?? and should be deposited on Monday @the latest. but why is the irs still saying that it's being processed. i am confused and wonder if anyone really has gotten a real answer. the where's my refund site is telling me also that i should receive it by Feb. 2nd. i seen on a different post that the irs sent funds to RB the 27th. curious what the irs site is telling them. taxes have been accepted with no problem so what is the hold up?

all i want to say is that yes the irs does deposit on other days of the week than fri. since 04 yhey have been testing a new system CADE system and this year 80% of returns are being processed this way. The system is suppose to work faster to process info and get refunds faster......this is why they are getting direct deposited on days other than fri. Look it up on irs.gov. I read a 3 page article on it yesterday.

This doesn't answer your question i know, but just so you know it can go to your bank on a day other than fri.

A very large percentage of the people posting in this forum are asking variations on the same question. Here are some hints that should answer most of your questions.

You will get your refund in a reasonable amount of time but it will not come yesterday.

If the Where's My Refund link on the IRS website doesn't work for you, don't bother calling IRS and asking a human for help. There are overwhelmed by people just like you and you will be told they aren't going to search for refunds for another couple of weeks.

Instead of getting your panties tied up in a knot, why not change your W-4 so that you don't have so much taken out every pay day? If you want a big check right after the start of the year, set up a savings account using direct deposit, hide the passbook and chanel your "refund" money into that. You will earn a bit of interest in the process and not pay the outrageous fees to get "your money" quickly next January.
