Fortunately, yes, but they must be deductible on your Federal income taxes. The IRS has restrictions, and I have taken the liberty of attaching a few web pages. It wasn't easy: they've expired. But if you are talking about 2005, you can fill out a 1040X and amend your return. You will have to amend your 2005 State return. Neither the IRS nor your State will allow you to put on your 2007 return. If your software has the Form 1040X, and most do now, you can do it rather painlessly. Don't think the IRS wires refunds from amended returns yet. You will have to wait 8-12 weeks for the mail, but it is worth it if you receive money back. Enjoy your refund.

For tax year 2005, you have until April 15, 2009 to amend your return if you did not file an extension by April 17, 2006.

I am not positive, but I doubt it. Generally, you have to claim deductions for the tax year in which you paid the expense. But if the amount is sufficient to make it worth your while, you can always file an amended 2005 tax return now in order to claim that overlooked deduction. Of course that assumes that your tax situation in 2005 was such that claiming that deduction would lessen your tax payment or increase your refund for that year. If so, you'll get a check.

you can claim it only in the year you used them. You could probably amend your 2005 return, check with a tax pro

No, but you can amend your 2005 return to claim the credit.

The energy credit for windows was for 2006 and 2007 only. You had to have installed them during those two years.

Otherwise, it's just added to your cost basis.

go ahead and claim it, as long as you dont get audited they will never know. and they will cut you a break anyways if you have a receipt. Just file that you installed them in 2007
