I read this today on one of the major sites,Yahoo or MSN or somewhere, you might have just seen it. I was shocked and outraged to see that in these current times, with so much identity theft going on,that our government (protect us?) would allow this to happen!

They are taking all your information and sending it to India to have them do it for $35 but still charge you hundreds to do it.
So here's what happens, instead of one person seeing all of your bank records, your wages, your mortgage statements and your SOCIAL SECURITY #. They will send them to who knows where in India, then what happens to your records, copying and selling them?
One main point in this article was:
It's very hard to find out where the identity theft occurs!
And there is NO LAW to stop them or even TO TELL YOU that they are doing it!
Can you believe this?
If I find the original story I will list it,but for now, here's a shocking link to the preparers in India selling their junk!

Hi Clift,

Hope the below artilce will be useful for you.

Just read it and decide:

Indian Outsourcing Industry and Standard Quality

The Indian BPO industry is now under an entirely different dictatorship. It was relying on its cost effectiveness previously to attract customers. Ninety percent of ITES-BPO companies now have specialized quality departments that are responsible for ensuring accurate, reliable services to their customers. The spotlight in Indian centers is now focused on ensuring standards of quality that are at par with, if not superior to their counterparts abroad. Quality is the catchphrase of business processes and services and is dictating everywhere.

India and the benefit

1. The National Association of Software and Service Companies survey also found that fifty percent of Indian companies have implemented varied levels of The International Organization for Standardization, which conceives sets of quality management standards such as ISO 9002, ISO 9001, ISO 9001:2000, and ISO 9001:2001. The ITES-BPO industries are most sensitive in including internationally accepted standards of quality assurance.

I suspected as much. But, personally, I can see the economics in it, and I don't care too much.

The thing is, the cost to the consumer would probably be even higher if they didn't outsource it. And the reason why it would be a mistake for consumers like me and you to outsource to India directly is that Indian outsourcers can't be held accountable to the US federal government / IRS / local tax bureaus, but the tax preparing firms in the US can be held accountable., if they screw up (even if the screw up was by the hands of some Indian guy). If you outsourced directly, you'd be accountable directly. It's sort of a matter of covering your own backside - that's the extra you're really paying for.

Your refund is what that's. If the preparer twisted up, you have no longer any recourse. If the IRS correction is incorrect you may record an amended return with the desirable education. BTW, that's unlawful for a paid preparer to base their cost on the envisioned refund. do no longer use this individual returned. evaluate submitting a criticism against them with the IRS. in the event that they are approved by the state (CA, MD or OR) record a criticism with the state licensing board. in the event that they seem to be a CPA, record a criticism with the State Board of Accountancy. i could additionally call for a whole refund of the cost that they charged. confronted with being stated to the IRS and state could relax the handbag strings. Then record them besides.
