I accidentally checked the box on the non filers payment form that says someone can claim me as a dependent, will I be able to get a stimulus check ? I am also on SSI, I am 49 years old , never married, don't have any children and I live by myself. Now I am worried it probably delayed my stimulus check because I had not get it to my direct deposit 😢

You won't get one at all. Adult dependents don't qualify for a check. Trying to fix your error is going to be very difficult. The IRS doesn't have the personnel to deal with it at the moment. I'm guessing that at some point, you're going to have to file a 2020 tax return and claim it that way.

No, that disqualifies you.

Dependents do not qualify for the stimulus if they are over 16, so by clicking that box you may have really messed things up for yourself. At the very least it sounds like you need to plan to spend some hours on the phone trying to sort this out. If you don’t try to correct this you are unlikely to get a check at all, much less a delayed check.

Go back to the non filers tool and see if it will let you edit your info. if not, then there is nothing you can do now. You can file a 2020 tax return in early 2021 to claim the $1200 stimulus if you qualify but did not receive it as an upfront payment.

Even if you have no other reason to file a tax return  you'll need to file one next year (for 2020) to claim the stimulus. Its too bad, because being on SSI they would have automatically sent your stimulus if you had just done nothing.

There was no reason for you to do anything so you really screwed that up
