I was just wondering if the IRS process e-files by computer why does it take so long to get a Direct deposited date? Shouldn't everything be automaticed. How does the IRS e-files process work is there just one big room full of computers processing e-files.

The problem is that somebody has to approve that money and initiate the direct deposit and when millions of people do the same thing at the same time... it does take extra time to sort it all out and get it on it's way.

You may just have to click the mouse to send it over there.... but there is still a human being on the other side that needs to at least say yes, let's send that money. And that human doesn't work at the speed of light.

not everything is done by computers, there are hundreds of actual hot bodies working at the centers who process the returns

Angie, can YOU write a computer program that can upload, process and release the refund for 50,000,000 tax returns? I doubt it. Yours is not the only tax return being processed.
