an employer misspelled my name on records. i've recently received mail (401k, etc.) with my misspelled name (A before E, not E before A). Is this going to be a problem when i file my taxes?

Absolutely yes.

As son as you discovered this you should have acted immediately to correct this.

This will change your credit report and other areas as well.

Git on this right away and don't take no for an answer.

Go to the director of human resources to get this fixed.

Don't waste time talking to subordinates.

The people at the top are there for a reason. They are usually smarter than the people who work them.

ALWAYS go to the very TOP when you have a problem.

Subordinates do nothing but make up excuses as to why they can't or wont help.

Some people even LIE just to get you to go away.

Make sure that your 401K and everything else is fixed.

Don't file your taxes until this is fixed or you'll be sorry....

If it is first name, no problem. If it is first four letters of last name, it is problem.

Get it cvorrected now, in any case. Go file a new W-4 or other documents and make them correct your name BEFORE they issue your W-2, 1099R, etc..

your SS number is the major entry, as long as it is correct, you should have no problem

however, it would not be unwise to let your employer know the misspelling so they issue your W-2 with the correct name
