We purchased $6,000 worth of windows for our home in Minnesota where we lived 9 months out of the year. Is there a way that we can file an amended form to get this credit and how do you go about doing it?

If you didn't file a 2010 return, there's nothing to amend, you'd have to file an original return.

But if you didn't HAVE to file, because you didn't owe any tax, the windows credit wouldn't apply to you anyway - that can only reduce your taxes, so if you didn't owe any, there's nothing to reduce.

you can amend anything from a previous return, for 2008, 2009, and 2010 that you need to correct

you need to read the qualifications to see if you qualify

Yes. This must by your primary residence, you must have claimed the credit before, you must actually pay taxes....

Amending is filling out form 1040X and attaching 5695 to it.
