?

I called the IRS offset number and it indicated there was nothing showing any offsets under my social security number, but now, the H&R Block number is saying my return was accepted but the IRS is indicating a prior year problem or other issue. I haven't received anything saying I owe anything. What could be going on and why didn't the offset number tell me this?

Are you in full compliance with the IRS, meaning have you filed all your tax return from 2003 through 2008? If not then your refund will be on HOLD until you file or proof you don't have to file.

good luck> Call IRS on Tuesday at 1-800-829-1040 or 10-800-829-0922 to find out what the issue is.

All tax preparers are middle services between you and the IRS. The IRS has nothingthing to do with offset, the IRS can not do any thing but to process your return as per the law. However, upon completing the process and accepting the return, the IRS forward the return to the Treasury Dept where the FMS have their tools ready to take either the entire refund or portion of it to satisfy the debt. The IRS does not answer these questions. The MFS is the one whom you should call. In all cases, they are good on sending letters to explain what happened. If you think they took more than what you owe, call and contest their action.

1-800-304-3107 is the FMS number for NON-IRS debts.

1-800-829-1040 is the number for the IRS.

Who did you call?
